G reen Thumb is a chain of SoCal nurseries which I give high ratings to for living up to their name—their plants are always very very healthy! If I were based in SoCal, I would absolutely purchase all my plants there, and for my customers as well. Green Thumb does display their plants lined up in rows which creates ZERO wow factor if you ask me. But for a nursery on the scale of Green Thumb—"Super Garden Center!"—I let it pass.
Aunt Patti and I chose to hit the San Marcos location because it was closest to our "path."
As you enter and make a right turn (after peeing) this is what you see smack dab in the middle...
Cinderella's carriage! I sent a picture of it to my BFF, Evelyn, who loves anything "enchanting" and "ever after." She told me I could buy it for her and keep it at my place.
Mike said NO.
Further on, past Cinderella’s ride, I came upon these MUST-HAVE mushrooms...
Not only are they garden art, but they can serve as umbrellas too, assuming you are the size of a tall bean pole. And for the low low price of just $3000.
I am in love with them, and later when I showed the picture of them to Mike, he did NOT say NO. But neither did he say, "Let’s hop in the truck right now and go get them!"
I noticed a yard stick lying on top of these containers and thought to myself, "Smart! Someone is paying attention to customer needs!" I mean, my tape measure is never on me when I need it. Is yours? Good thing I always have my back-up with me. Did you know that from your elbow to your wrist is approximately one foot? When needed, I also use my 7-inch hand.
Ugh. Readers, you know how I feel about these...
I included that photo here for you. (I DO care you know.)
Here's another...
Well...if you must have that in your yard, go for it.
(Just don't ask Mike first.)
Not my cup of tea either, but this dragon would go great in a children's garden. Though not for younger ones who it might possibly terrify. (I caught AP giving it a wide berth...)
Isn't that the sweetest face ever? I know! I love her too.
Mike said NO. (sniff)
Succulents! AP is hiding in there somewhere. (Geez. Her issues. It's getting serious.)
Thank you, Green Thumb. Some plants NOT in rows!
Do you know how much money, time and patience it takes to get a succulent arrangement like this one looking so perfect?! Believe me, I have tried. Am still trying.
Adenium obesum subsp. swazicum (Desert Rose)
I could not pass up this plant! Those beautiful pink flowers, and stems that grow freely in all directions.
It is a tree succulent and will grow to the mammoth size of 2-feet tall. Apparently, it can be easily propagated. (Ooh-la-la!!!)
Here’s a bit of trivia: Dessert Rose is native to Swaziland, southern parts of Mozambique and to South Africa. I love that nowadays I can have plants from interesting world places in my own garden.
After visiting Green Thumb, I was famished. Luckily Tony’s Fresh Mexican Food was just across the street where I had one of the BEST burritos EVER (cleverly named "Tony’s Burrito" on the menu).
AP was content eating some lunch stuff of her own that she brought along...until she got a whiff of my Tony's Burrito! So I had to get all territorial on her.
TIP: When nursery hopping, one must always bring snacks and be ready at all times to scout out a good meal. Waltzing through nurseries burns a ton of energy, and you have to refuel in order to make it through the next one on your path!
Just sayin’.
